10th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Soap-For-Hope Project 2011
Update: November 29 It's been great to see how our customers have responded positively to our vision to send our sponsored child to school for a year. Thank you for being a part of that. Some even donated their own money toward the cause. We hope you were blessed by this as much as we were. Thank you!
Update: September 19 With your help we have reached our goal for Kerry's school year! Thank you so much. Now we will start helping another child. Let's see if we can sponsor two children this year!
Update: June 23: We're over half-way to sponsoring Kerry for his next year's education! A special thanks to Rob Waddell for his generous donation! We know Rob from the Charlotte Farmer's Market and he makes some fine wood products. In fact, he made our 72-bar soap mold.
Update: June 1 We have worked with the Reeves to find a child to sponsor. His name is Kerry and he is five years old and lives in the fishing village close to the mission with his mother.
Two years ago, Dr. Kerry Reeves and wife Joy left behind the comforts of their Conover, North Carolina home and moved into an orphanage in Haiti as they expanded New Vision Ministries into a full-time mission. Some of the many services they provide for the Haitian people include vision care, business mentoring programs for fisherman, and a sponsorship program for children which involves a sponsor paying for a year’s worth of education. In Haiti, there is no such thing as public education and according to UNICEF, roughly 50% of their children never step foot in a classroom.
We at O My Soap! want to help provide an education for a child or young adult. Our goal is to raise enough money through our Soap-For-Hope Project to pay for one year's worth of schooling ($200 USD). Each month, as part of our year-long celebration, we will donate $1.00 for each soap sold baring the “Soap for Hope” insignia directly to New Vision Ministries’ education sponsorship program. A different soap will be chosen each month to bear the ‘Soap for Hope’ label. Customers may purchase the ‘Soap for Hope’ at the farmer’s markets (Downtown Hickory Farmers’ Market and the Charlotte Farmer’s Market off of Yorkmont Road). The ‘Soap for Hope’ program begins Saturday, April 23 and lasts through the end of the year. Stay tuned to our Facebook page and here to get updates on where we stand with the sponsorship program
